A world-class tourist destination with a rich arts scene and year-round outdoor activities, Reno has something for everyone inside its 85.2 square miles (and we're a mere 45 minutes away from Lake Tahoe and some of the country's best ski resorts).
Empalme, Sonora, Mexico:
Founded in 1905, Empalme is a city of 50,000 people located on the south-central coast of the Mexican state of Sonora. Trees known as Yucateco are probably the most easily recognized feature of the town since these trees grow to heights in excess of 100 feet. In many places they cover entire streets for several blocks so that the streets appear to be passing through a tunnel. Empalme is located near a larger city called Guaymas which is home to the closest airport. Guaymas is located about 250 miles south of the United States border on the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) and is accessible by car (an 8-9 hour drive) or by air (a direct 1-hour flight). The city is home to more than 200,000 people. Guaymas, in addition to its active seaport, is known for its water recreation opportunities. A resort area San Carlos, has been developed about 15 kilometers northwest of Guaymas, and attracts visitors to its beaches, marinas and hotels.
